The next event for interoperability testing of SIP trunking has been announced by the SIP Forum in a bid to help the industry adopt SIPconnect’s 1.1 Technical Specifications. The SIPconnect-IT event will be held at the University of New Hamphire’s Interoperability Laboratory over five days in May. The event will provide equipment vendors , service providers, and application developers with a platform that will test and demonstrate implementations of the interoperability testing that will take place in a live network.

East Coast, the train operator, has turned to O2 Unify in order to consolidate the firm’s communication and IT infrastructure. The deal is valued at £2.6m. Part of the work will include the updating of local-area networks and wireless-access networks, which will upgrade the firm’s IPT systems to incorporate unified communications, as well as relocating 1,600 mobile phones to the O2 network.

San Diego recently played host to the Microsoft Lync Conference and among the key messages was that Lync intends to become “people-centric”. A large part of the content in sessions and keynotes focused on new and improved features, designed to unify communications. Microsoft, or Lync at least, has clearly set its sights on user adoption.

An increasing number of enterprises are headed towards utilising a centralised SIP trunking deployment in order to increase network administration efficiency and cut down on costs, says research by Acme Packet, the SIP trunking supplier. Close to 60 per cent of the surveyed enterprises said that they are implementing, or plan to implement, a centralised SIP trunking deployment in preference to a distributed deployment, says a blog post by the US company.
