Being a Manchester based comapny we thought it would be helpful to have a page dedicated to voip in Manchester. Packnet have been working with our good friends over at Webpraxis to create a new online booking system for the leisure industry. The system allows owners of Health Centres and Gym’s to setup all their classes online and in turn allow their customer to book classes directly from the web.

We have been asked by many customers if the can setup their mobile phones to make SIP calls. The answer we have given them has been both yes and no. The main UK operators don’t really like the idea of voip/sip calls being made from your mobile handset. If you have received a mobile phone from your chosen supplier then chances are that the firmware has been altered in some way and that the ability to use the inbuilt internet phone application has been removed.

At Packnet, one of our systems has to generate invoices that should be sending to customers on a monthly basis. The system was written mainly in Perl – so we decided to use some Perl library from CPAN to generate these invoices. After considering a couple of modules, we found that PDF::API2 is one of the most popular and feature-rich module available for this purpose.

Packnet have been working on ebXML message transfer with a number of clients recently and whilst we tried long and hard to handle this with code (Perl framework) we had to give in and move to a software based solution.

At Packnet we use RT for our contact with customers and end users. To use a common phrase ‘It does what it says on the tin’.
