Online commerce trade group, the Cloud Industry Forum, has warned that the UK is in danger of losing out economically unless all small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) across the country are given access to high speed broadband. The group goes as far to argue that economic recovery in the UK could even be hit as a result.

Business VoIP could be available to more companies across the UK following news that £50 million is to be spent immediately on stepping up superfast broadband installations.
The £50 million broadband development allocation, announced by Chancellor of the Exchequer George Osborne, is only the first step in a broader investment of £530 million of public funds planned between now and 2015 for those geographical areas deemed most likely to be ignored by private broadband suppliers.

SIP trunking has resulted in cost reductions of 70% for at least one organisation, according to a top US commercial IT executive.
Answering questions at the recently held US telecommunications industry seminar, Enterprise Connect, vice president of communications architecture for Unified IT Systems, Sorrell Slaymaker, said that the 70% savings figure was one he had personally witnessed.

An internet protocol (IP) telephony receiver from Chinese telecommunications hardware company, Yealink, has been awarded ‘Product of the Year’ for 2010 by prestigious industry publication, Internet Telephony magazine.
The VP-2009P was praised by the editors of the title as a high quality, innovative product which fully meets the requirements of the modern marketplace. The plaudits mirror comments by Yealink’s own vice president, Stone Lu, who said in accepting the award that the VP-2009P is a “milestone of innovative communication” which ‘proves to be recognised by customers all around the world’.

SIP trunking is already proving a powerful draw for many businesses and looks set for significant future expansion, according to the results of a newly published survey in the US.
SIP trunking – or ‘session initiation protocol’ trunking – enables a company to adapt its existing private business phone systems exchange (or PBX) to send and receive calls via the internet. One of the main incentives for introducing SIP trunking is that calls made using internet protocol (IP) telephony are generally cheaper than those made over conventional telephone network lines.

A new report by commercial sector internet provider, Talktalk Business, claims that many UK small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) could potentially lose out on VoIP opportunities because they have inferior broadband connections.
According to the report, only 30% of SMEs across the UK enjoy business grade broadband capability, whilst the remainder are merely using cheaper domestic quality broadband connections.
