EE, the mobile network giant that you probably loath because of the unending Kevin Bacon adverts, (Oh, and of course Britney Spears! How could I forget.) has announced that they’ve completed UK’s first 5G lab test. This major feat was achieved alongside the help of Chinese telecoms equipment company, Huawei, who are best known for their sleek phones that bear an eerie resemblance to Apple’s iPhones.
Putting aside my quips and whatnot, this is actually a major step for mobile connectivity and tech in the UK.
Tom Bennett, EE director of Network has stated that :
We’re using our experience in cutting-edge 4G technologies and our dedicated partnership approach to ensure technology leadership in 5G. The network architecture we’ve proven today is a huge step forward, and will drive our ambitious rollout timetable to be first for 5G.
The test provided a cutting-edge download speed of 2.8Gbps. Just imagine all things you can do with that!
But of course, with all things amazing, people do have other things to say. Upon EE’s Twitter announcement of their successful test, users flooded their account to complain about the company’s unreliable 4G and services across the country.

This, of course, brings us to the question of, how the hell will 5G fare? With 4G and 3G unable to keep up with the demands, will 5G even stand a chance? Well, it seems as though our question will be answered soon as EE hopes to have their 5G commercially ready by 2018.
