SIP Trunking

SIP Trunking can be used in conjunction with an IP enabled traditional PBX to reduce overall costs of ISDN lines. A SIP trunk allows one concurrent call to be made across the line. Moving away from ISDN lines to SIP trunks gives substantial savings to the company.

SIP Trunks can be used to carry either outbound only traffic from the fixed IP enabled PBX or handle both inbound and outbound calling.

SIP Trunking Outbound

In this model the IP enabled PBX is setup with a SIP trunk connection to the hosted IP telephony platform. The number of concurrent calls required dictates the overall cost of the SIP Trunk monthly rental. For example Company A uses a maximum of 10 concurrent calls at any given time. With a cost of £5 per SIP Trunk the monthly SIP Trunk rental would be £50 (ex VAT) per month.

SIP Trunking Inbound

In this model the IP enabled PBX is setup with a SIP Trunk connection to the Hosted IP Telephony platform and the inbound routing and management of the calls are handled by the local PBX. Again the number of concurrent calls required dictates the overall cost of the SIP Trunk monthly rental.

Benefits of SIP Trunking

This solution offers a cost saving versus traditional ISDN lines. Additionally the ability to increase and decrease line availability with short contractual periods (min 1 month) mean that lead times can be vastly decreased when compared with traditional ISDN lines. Coupled with the lack of setup costs means that this solution is very beneficial to call centre and seasonal businesses.
